EN TERRE CABERNET FRANC - New Product in 2024

August 26, 2024

En Terre, meaning 'earthen' or 'of the earth' is the embodiment of this special wine project. Grown under Peach Cliff's warmth, this small-lot Cabernet Franc from Rock Oven Vineyard captures the late sun. A celebration of collaboration and innovative farming, it’s inspired by Da Vinci's exploration, embodying our commitment to intentional and sustainable farming. This wine is a tribute to the unique spirit of our land and the bighorn sheep that witness its growth.

TASTING NOTES
This wine has a medium ruby hue with a fuchsia rim that captivates at first glance and then reveals ripe black cherry, cola, raspberry jam, and warm baking spices on the nose. On the palate the wine is dry with medium-plus acidity, medium fine, ripe tannins and medium body, delivering flavours of ripe cherry, red plum, raspberry, dried herbs, and  baking spices, with a long lasting finish.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES
Cabernet Franc was hand picked from Rock Oven, then destemmed and lightly crushed. After a 3 day cold soak, the must was fermented in two oak fermentation barrels (700 L and 450 L French oak), with manual punchdowns occurring twice a day over a 16 day fermentation. Following a 7 day post ferment maceration, the wine was pressed off and racked to French oak barrels where it spent 18 months.

Wine Reviews:
Globe and Mail, Christopher Waters, 90 Points
"En Terre" is a new Okanagan label from winemaker, Nadine Kinvig and Terravista Vineyards owners, Eric and Dallas Thor. The [Cabernet Franc] style is ripe and savoury, with red berry and cherry fruit mingling with sage, earth and oak-derived spice. Bright acidity and chewy tannins provide structure and potential for aging.
